I just discovered shishito peppers this summer, and am now officially obsessed with them. They’re one of those things where once you know what you’re looking before, you start to see them everywhere — just in the last week, I’ve found them at Whole Foods, Bi-Rite, and Trader Joe’s. Shishitos look like a mix between a jalapeño and a padrone pepper. Flavor-wise, they have a standard pepper flavor with sweet-hot citrus notes. While they’re typically pretty mild peppers, every once in a while you’ll find a shishito with just a little bit of a spicy kick — yum.
When eating, you eat the whole pepper (seeds and all), except for the stem.
